The Magnolia Woods Civic Association held its annual membership meeting on Dec. 13.

Michelle Babin, Sylvia Martinez and Dianne Taylor will step into the positions being vacated by outgoing board members Sam Martin, Judy Caprio and Richard Condrey. Officer elections will be held in January.

Magnolia Woods Elementary Principal Kim DiPalma talked about the school’s instructional program, including its STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) focus, computer lab and accelerated classes. Her presentation coincided with an initiative to forge a closer relationship between the neighborhood and the school.

Volunteers in Public Schools coordinator Joan Pennington recognized neighborhood volunteers and a new school/community garden initiative was announced, a news release said.
