A life-size papier-mâché elephant was the focal point for local efforts to help save the endangered animals. The Watering Hole Foundation, Ana for Elephants, and artists Alex Beard and Jacques Duffourc began the sculpture on Esplanade Avenue during the Jazz Festival, inviting passers-by to add strips of newspaper. They moved the elephant into the Art Garage when the weather turned rainy, and invited supporters. Funds raised will go to the Ngare Ndare Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Northern Kenya and a regional habitat of the African elephant.
