The railroad crossing on Airline Highway (U.S.. 61) at Choctaw Drive will be closed for repairs this weekend, said state Department of Transportation and Development spokeswoman Anastasia Semien, followed by intermittent single-lane closures Monday through Wednesday.
The weekend closure will allow Canadian National to replace the railroad tracks and repair the crossing, she said. Airline Highway traffic will not be allowed through this area. Motorists should expect heavy traffic delays in the area and consider alternate routes.
The detour for this route is as follows:
Northbound Airline Highway traffic will detour west onto Tom Drive, then North onto Wooddale Boulevard, then East onto Greenwell Springs Road and back onto Airline Highway Northbound.
Southbound Airline Highway traffic will detour west onto Greenwell Springs Road, then South onto Wooddale Boulevard, then east onto Tom Drive and back onto Airline Highway Southbound.
Nighttime intermittent single-lane closures will happen Monday Dec. 7, through Wednesday, Dec. 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow crews to complete striping.
Editor's note: This story was updated at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, to correct that the road will be completely closed during repairs.
