GONZALES - City police officers arrested a second suspect Tuesday evening who was wanted in a homicide early Saturday at a convenience store on La. 30, the police chief said Wednesday.
Christopher George, 25, 1208 W. Penn Ave., Gonzales, turned himself in about 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and was booked into Ascension Parish Prison on counts of aggravated battery, attempted second-degree murder and illegal carrying of a weapon, Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson said.
Police investigators believe George hit Darren Paige, 21, 921 W. Macci St., Gonzales, with a pistol and later fired shots at him with a second semi-automatic pistol, Jackson said.
Paige was arrested on one count of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Carlos Austen, 21, of Gonzales.
Austen and George arrived at the store together and words were exchanged between the two men and Paige. That incident eventually led to the exchange of shots in the store parking lot, killing Austen and grazing a woman who arrived at the store with Austen and George, police have said.
Jackson said investigators are not looking for any other suspects in the shooting.
