Republican challenger John C. Thompson defeated Democratic incumbent Otis Wilson Saturday in a runoff for the District B seat on the West Feliciana Parish Council.

Thompson took 53 percent to Wilson’s 47 percent, or 475 votes to 417 votes, complete but unofficial returns say.

Wilson, who has served 18 years on the council and old Police Jury, had led Thompson in the three-man Oct. 24 primary.

Affordable housing, roads, sewerage and other infrastructure needs are major issues raised by both men.

Thompson is pastor and bricklayer who is making his first foray into elective politics.

All four other seats on the newly structured council, which switched from seven to five seats in this election cycle, were decided in the primary or had candidates who were unopposed at qualifying.
