Old State Capitol ceremony

A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol sponsored by the USS KIDD and Veterans Memorial and Secretary of State Tom Schedler.

The event, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will include a keynote speech from Maj. Gen. Glenn H. Curtis, the adjutant general of the Louisiana National Guard.

The MLK Kings Kid’s Bell Choir will sing patriotic songs throughout the ceremony.

Louisiana Bayou Bistro will be providing jambalaya lunch plates to Veterans Day guests in the Senate Chambers immediately following the ceremony.

Veterans are encouraged to wear something that represents their military branch, such as a uniform or a ball cap. Guests are encouraged to wear patriotic clothes.

The USS KIDD and Veterans Memorial will be free to the public on Veterans Day. USS KIDD ship tours will be free to veterans and available at the regular admission price of $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for children ages 5-12 to the general public. Iberville Salute to Veterans

The Iberville Salute to Veterans starts at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday with pre-ceremony and activities at the Iberville Veterans Memorial on Railroad Avenue in Plaquemine, followed by the ceremony at 4:30 p.m.

Featured events this year include patriotic music performances by the Iberville Math, Science and Arts Academy Orchestra, a rifle drill by the Plaquemine Senior High JROTC, and songs from the Rev. Greg Daigle, the Unique Visions Gospel Chorus, Jasmyn Green and many more.

Photos of another 120 veterans will be added to the Iberville Wall of Veterans, which now includes more than 2,000 veterans, and an ascending patriotic light show will end the ceremony.


All state and federal offices, including the U.S. Post Office, are closed.

Various parish government offices, including libraries, will be closed in Ascension Parish, East Baton Rouge Parish, West Baton Rouge Parish and Livingston Parish.

Courts in Baton Rouge, including federal court, the 19th Judicial District, 1st Circuit Court of Appeal and East Baton Rouge Parish clerk’s office are closed.

CATS buses will run on a Saturday schedule.

Public schools are open in East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes. Schools will dismiss two hours early in Ascension Parish.
