The body of a 3-year-old child was found in the burned remains of a mobile home in Greensburg on Friday afternoon, the state Fire Marshal's Office said Monday.

Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 2825 Otis and Willie Matthews Road around 2 p.m. Friday and found the trailer engulfed in flames, Chief Deputy Brant Thompson, of the Fire Marshal's Office, said in a news release Monday.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters found the body of Elijah Robertson in a bedroom destroyed by the fire, Thompson said. The body was later released to the St. Helena Parish coroner for autopsy.

No official cause of the fire has been determined, Thompson said, but investigators have determined the fire originated in the opposite end of the home from where the child's body was found.

The investigation remains ongoing.
