A former prison guard has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison for attempting to smuggle drugs into the U.S. Penitentiary at Pollock.

Pineville resident Brandon Ray Willis was sentenced Friday to 71 months.

Willis, 27, pleaded guilty in federal court in January.

He was arrested in August after meeting with an undercover agent and agreeing to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine into the prison where he worked as a guard.

Judge Dee D. Drell sentenced Willis to the prison term and three years of supervised probation. He also was fined $5,000.
