The East Baton Rouge Parish Public Defender’s Office, the Greater Baton Rouge Chapter of the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society and the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers are sponsoring “Expungement Day” on Saturday.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dr. Leo S. Butler Community Center, 950 E. Washington St., Baton Rouge.

Expungement Day is an opportunity for anyone who has a question about expunging an arrest or conviction to consult with a lawyer free of charge.

Lawyers will be available to answer questions related to why it is important to have past convictions or charges expunged, how to file the necessary forms and whether a particular conviction or charge is eligible to be expunged.

In addition, lawyers specializing in employment and housing law will be on hand to answer questions related to the effect of a criminal history on employment or housing opportunities.

Expungement Day is a purely informational event. Participating lawyers will not be preparing or filing applications.
