A team of LSU accounting students won the 2016 Deloitte National Accounting Case Competition and a $10,000 prize, beating five other finalists.

Each team was assigned a different case based on actual situations Deloitte encountered during audits. The teams presented their solutions to a panel of Deloitte partners and retired partners.

LSU was assigned a scenario involving a company in the gaming industry, transactions with its subsidiaries, and a subsidiary’s bankruptcy proceedings. The students had to research the applicable accounting rules and use their judgment to determine the proper way to account for and disclose the operations of the subsidiary.

LSU’s team was represented by Ellie Bowen of Shreveport; Ethan Collins of Prairieville; Megan Kuether of Beaumont, Texas; Ryan Lachney of Baton Rouge; and Rebecca Werdine of Tampa, Florida.
