Anne Cochran, president and CEO of the Louisiana Credit Union League, has been named the first chairwoman of the World Council of Credit Unions’ board of directors.

The World Council is the leading international trade association and development agency for credit unions.

Cochran succeeds Grzegorz Bierecki, president and CEO of the National Association of Co-operative Savings and Credit Unions, Poland’s credit union trade group.

Cochran’s honors include being named one of the Top 50 Women of the Year by New Orleans CityBusiness and winning the National Credit Union Foundation’s Anchor Award in 2006 for her efforts following Hurricane Katrina. That work included developing the Louisiana Credit Union Foundation, established to provide financial assistance for statewide disaster relief efforts, and providing educational opportunities for credit union employees and volunteers.

Cochran was inducted into the Louisiana Credit Union Hall of Fame in 2011.
