eQHealth partnering with regional network

Baton Rouge-based eQHealth Solutions will be working with providers and Louisiana communities to improve health care quality through a regional Quality Insights-Quality Innovation Network.

The five-state regional network is part of a new Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization chartered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The network is a collaboration among eQHealth Solutions in Louisiana; the West Virginia Medical Institute and its Quality Insights of Pennsylvania and Quality Insights of Delaware affiliated companies; and Healthcare Quality Strategies Inc. in New Jersey.

The focus is on developing data-driven health care quality improvement programs, designed to improve clinical care and patient safety, locally and across the network.

“Partnering in a regional QIN-QIO allows us to share knowledge, leverage combined resources, and maximize the positive impact of our cumulative efforts, while still being able to serve our health care communities locally,” said Edie Castello, eQHealth Solutions CEO. “This positions us well to make real progress toward CMS’s three-part aim of better care, better health and lower costs.”

Areas of emphasis and assistance will include practice transformation; health information technology; lean methods; hospital infections; quality improvement; care coordination; cardiac health; health care-acquired conditions; diabetes self-management education; and value-based purchasing programs.

Historically, CMS issued 53 QIO contracts, one for each state and territory, to provide case review and quality improvement support services. The new structure is regional and establishes two groups of QIOs — one group for quality improvement, the QIN-QIOs, and one for Medicare quality of care complaints and appeals, called Beneficiary and Family Centered Care QIOs.
