Meetings are planned in the New Orleans area and Baton Rouge to get public comments on a plan to deepen the Mississippi River’s ship channel to 50 feet from the Gulf of Mexico to Baton Rouge.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, is evaluating the environmental and economic impacts of deepening the channel-draft from 45 feet.
The corps is seeking comment on its environmental impact statement and will provide additional information at three meetings:
BELLE CHASSE: May 26, 6 p.m. open house and 6:30 p.m. presentation; Belle Chasse Branch Library, 8442 Highway 23.
NEW ORLEANS: May 28, 8:30 a.m. open house and 9 a.m. presentation; U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District Assembly Room, 7400 Leake Ave.
BATON ROUGE: May 28, 6 p.m. open house and 6:30 p.m. presentation; Louisiana State Police Training Academy, 7901 Independence Blvd.
