Louisiana residents who receive unemployment benefits by debit card have until Tuesday to change to direct-deposit banking or their benefits will be delivered as a paper check through the U.S. Postal Service.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission said paper-check delivery will delay receipt of benefits by several days.
The commission said the change to direct-deposit is necessary because JPMorgan Chase, which has provided the debit card service, is exiting that business. Existing unemployment recipients will be able to use balances remaining on their debit cards after Tuesday; however, no new money will be deposited on the cards.
Unemployment recipients can update their banking preferences to the direct deposit online in the HiRE portal at www.laworks.net. For questions or concerns, the LWC’s toll-free number is (866) 783-5567.
