Home sales in metro Baton Rouge were up by 4.4 percent in November, thanks to increased sales in Ascension and East Baton Rouge parishes.
There were 615 home sales that closed in November in the eight-parish area, according to figures released Thursday by the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors. That compares with 589 closed sales in November 2013.
Once again, the biggest monthly gainer was Ascension Parish, where sales were up nearly 29 percent to 139 from 108. East Baton Rouge, the largest market for sales, also had an increase, going up 5.4 percent to 313 from 297.
Livingston Parish saw a 23 percent drop in year-to-year sales, falling from 125 in November 2013 to 96.
The median sales price for the metro area was up 6 percent from $174,000 to $184,482.
In another sign of continued demand, the average number of days a home was on the market fell from 85 in November 2013 to 78.
The number of homes for sale dropped 12.7 percent to 3,865. The supply in months was five, compared with 6.3 in November 2013.
In a positive sign for December activity, the number of pending home sales in the capital region rose by nearly 10 percent to 630 from 573.
The number of new listings on the market was virtually unchanged from November 2013, going from 814 last year to 812.
Through the first 11 months of the year, there were 8,203 home sales in metro Baton Rouge, compared with 7,982 through November 2013, a 2.8 percent increase.
Year-to-date sales were up 9.8 percent in Livingston, going from 1,371 to 1,505.
Ascension saw a 2 percent increase, going from 1,550 to 1,581 closed sales. East Baton Rouge sales were down slightly less than 1 percent, with 4,319 closed sales compared with 4,359 through November 2013.
