Panel set to review residential sites on Plank Road

All Star Automotive Group is looking to move All Star Chevrolet North from its current site at the former Graves Chevrolet to Plank Road near the airport.

All Star President Matt McKay said that while site plan approval is on the agenda for Monday’s East Baton Rouge Parish Planning Commission meeting, it could very well get deferred because there are still details to work out.

Ultimately, however, All Star envisions a 21,000-square-foot building and a parking lot with 97 spaces on just under five acres with another acre of green space.

The new site is on the east side of Plank Road just north of Robique Road and south of Cypress Bayou.

All Star bought Graves Chevrolet, located near the Coca-Cola plant, in early 2010. However, McKay said, company officials want a new facility in the area.

The Planning Commission staff is recommending approval because the surrounding area, which includes Metro Airport, is a designated growth center in the city-parish land-use map.

In other business, the commission will consider approving Cheval Point, a 125-lot subdivision on 50 acres east of River Road and south of BREC Drive.

Also scheduled for consideration — after being deferred several times — is site plan approval for University Edge, a three-building apartment complex at Iowa and McKinley streets.

Developed by Hallmark Campus Communities, of Columbus, Ohio, plans call for it to have 474 beds in 158 units, including 20 one-bedroom units, 30 two-bedroom units, 38 three-bedroom units, and 70 four-bedroom units.

Two of the buildings on the roughly six-acre site would be four stories, and the third would be three stories.
