Louisiana’s economic development department is creating a new, free website to help Louisiana employers match their available jobs with the workers whose skills most precisely fit those positions.

Louisiana employers can start using the website on June 13 and job seekers on Aug. 18.

Filling jobs that require specific skills, such as industry experience and/or education requirements, is often a time-consuming process for employers and prospective employees.

Louisianajobconnection.com is designed to speed things up. Workers don’t have to spend hours scouring through job listings, and employers can avoid wasting time combing through the applications of unqualified workers.

“Louisiana Job Connection has the potential to be a game changer for our state,” LED Secretary Stephen Moret said. “As our economy grows and diversifies, employers need to be able to quickly identify and recruit the right talent.”

Louisiana Job Connection is different than the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s online job portal, but some of the information fields align. The agencies expect further integration of their online job systems in the future.

The new website grew out of LED’s experience with FastStart, a training program that provides individual companies with customized employee recruitment, screening and training. Through FastStart, LED worked with a wide range of industries, and that experience helped shape the way the new website works and its design, Moret said.

Louisiana Job Connection was originally designed for FastStart clients, but the website will be available to all employers with a Louisiana tax ID.

Gov. Bobby Jindal said that with tens of thousands of new jobs on the way through industrial projects, the website is much-needed and will serve as a resource to employers.

The website already has won the endorsement of executives at CB&I, Methanex and PreSonus Audio Electronics.

PreSonus Human Resources Manager Crystal Frith expects Louisiana Job Connection to become an “essential tool” for identifying the talent the company needs.
