First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Sept. 17 increased to 2,402 from the previous week's total of 2,394.

For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 2,307, the state labor department said.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 3,136 from the previous week's average of 3,781.

Continued unemployment claims for the week ending Sept. 17 decreased to 27,190 from 28,220 the previous week. The four-week moving average increased to 27,636 from the previous week's average of 27,320.
