Zatarain’s is voluntarily recalling boxes of its Red Beans and Rice Original because the product may contain dairy ingredients harmful to those with dairy allergies.

The product may actually contain Creamy Parmesan Rice Mix with dairy ingredients.

Dairy allergens are not listed on the Red Beans and Rice Original packaging. People with a dairy allergy or sensitivity risk a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product.

No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported and no other Zatarain’s products are involved in the recall, the Gretna company said.

The recall is for 8-ounce boxes of Red Beans and Rice Original with a “best by” date of July 31, 2016.

The products were shipped from Aug. 7 through Sept. 29 to retail outlets in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, Mississippi, Minnesota, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

All retail outlets that sell the products are being notified to remove them from their shelves and warehouses immediately. Consumers can contact Zatarain’s Consumer Affairs at (877) 837-3796 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a replacement or refund.
