Walk-On’s Bistreaux and Bar is expanding into the Shreveport market, with plans to open its first north Louisiana restaurant by mid-September.

Chris McJunkins, a veteran of the restaurant industry who owns the Catina Laredo and Windrush Grill restaurants in Shreveport, heads up a group that has signed a deal to serve as a Walk-On’s franchisee. Former LSU baseball great Todd Walker and Jacob Hester, an ex-LSU football star, also are part of the franchise group. Walker and Hester both graduated from Shreveport-Bossier City high schools.

Brandon Landry, who co-founded Walk-On’s, said he’s pleased to attract a franchise partner like McJunkins.

“Chris has a great background in our industry, so I’m very confident in his ability to translate Walk-On’s distinctive qualities to the Shreveport market,” Landry said. “We’re expanding our brand very strategically and deliberately with truly outstanding franchise partners, and Chris absolutely fits the bill.”

The Shreveport restaurant will be located at 7031 Youree Drive in a building that had been occupied by Romano’s Macaroni Grill.

Shreveport is the second market to get a Walk-On’s franchise. A Lake Charles restaurant is set to open by the end of the year. New Orleans Saints star Drew Brees and his wife, Brittany, also recently purchased an ownership stake in the Baton Rouge-based restaurant chain.

Walk-On’s began franchising in late 2014. There are four company-owned restaurants in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette. A company-owned location in Houma is set to open later this year, while restaurants in the Americana traditional neighborhood development in Zachary and at the Juban Crossing shopping center in Denham Springs are scheduled to open in 2016.
