Baton Rouge General Physicians and two primary care practices in the Monroe and Lake Charles areas have signed with Quality Blue Primary Care, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana’s population health and quality improvement program, as a first step in a statewide roll-out of the program.

Quality Blue allows physicians to focus on improving care for their total patient population, not just the people actively seeking treatment, according to Blue Cross. The payment structure rewards providers for better patient outcomes, with a care-management fee paid on top of their usual fee-for-service setup.

Quality Blue’s goals include improving outcomes for patients with chronic diseases, supporting doctors and transforming health care delivery, according to Blue Cross.

The health insurer is starting with primary care physician practices and will roll the program out statewide over two to three years.

Quality Blue is an important step toward enhancing patient care, improving health care quality and reducing costs, Dr. Brad Gaspard, a family medicine physician with Baton Rouge General Physicians, said in a news release.

The other two practices are West Monroe Family Clinic and West Calcasieu Virtual Medical Home. The latter is made up of seven primary sites in Calcasieu Parish: The Cypress Clinic, Schlamp Family Medical, Calcasieu Family Physicians, Gamborg and Cavanaugh Family Medicine, The Family Care Center of SWLA, The Family Practice Center of Sulphur and Maplewood Family Medicine.
