Rob Marionneaux, a former state senator, has joined the staff of the Port of Greater Baton Rouge.

Marionneaux started working for the port full time last week as director of governmental affairs and outreach, said Jay Hardman, executive director.

The time was right because Karen St. Cyr, the port’s longtime director of public affairs, announced several months ago she would retire at the end of the year. “Rob had always expressed an interest in working at the port, so it was a good time to bring him in,” Hardman said.

From 1995 to 2012, Marionneaux served in the Legislature, first in the House for a term, then in the Senate. The Grosse Tete Democrat was forced out of office because of term limits.

Marionneaux and St. Cyr will work together for the next six months or so, before she steps down. The double incumbency will smooth the transition, Hardman said.

Marionneaux is set to earn $110,000 a year, about the same St. Cyr was making.
