A national conference that brings together entrepreneurs of color with more than 50 national experts and investors is being held by PowerMoves.NOLA July 1-3 to coincide with the Essence Festival in New Orleans.
PowerMoves.NOLA’s mission is to increase the number of America’s venture-backed, minority-founded companies in high-tech and high-growth sectors.
The conference on July 2 includes two business pitch competitions, one starting at 9 a.m. for early-stage entrepreneurs and the other starting at 11 a.m. for later-stage entrepreneurs, competing for a $25,000 cash prize in each category. There also will be a 2 p.m. panel discussion by former pitch and demo day participants on scaling start-ups and raising capital. The events are at Club XLIV in Champions Square on LaSalle Street.
Events July 3 include financial technology field entrepreneurs presenting business models to investors and industry business leaders from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Freeport-McMoRan Building, 1615 Poydras St., 23rd Floor. Twenty early-stage tech entrepreneurs will complete a six-week boot camp at the PowerUp Demo Day, where they will make pitches to win a $15,000 cash prize from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Pan American Life Building, 601 Poydras St., 20th Floor, IberiaBank Atrium.
A “Big Break Power Pitch” will include four consumer-focused startups competing from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the 2015 Essence Festival, center stage in the Ernst M. Morial Convention Center, for a $25,000 cash prize and exposure to investors and business leaders.
