The countdown is ticking away; yes to Christmas, but also Monday’s return of Blue Bell ice cream to Louisiana.
The state, along with Jackson, Mississippi, is in the fourth phase of the Brenham, Texas, creamery’s market re-entry plan after listeria contamination halted sales and prompted cleanup of its production plants.
The ice cream’s return also puts 115 workers back on the job from a furlough that followed the April voluntary recall of all Blue Bell products.
The company resumed production last month in its hometown of Brenham, 70 miles northwest of Houston.
Blue Bell was linked to 10 listeria cases, including three deaths in Kansas. Listeria bacteria can cause serious illness, especially in older adults, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.
