Derek Mathews, of TWRU CPAs & Financial Advisors, has earned the Certified Fraud Examiner credential through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and also earned the Certified in Financial Forensics credential with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mathews has more than 16 years of experience as a certified public accountant, with seven years of experience as a certified valuation analyst.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Library System has been presented with the 2017 Library Journal’s America’s Star Libraries Award, its sixth consecutive annual award.
A five-star rating is based on an independent assessment of accomplishments in delivering services, programs and materials to the community.
The Benjamin L. Legendre Sugar Heritage ASSCT Professorship, which will support LSU AgCenter faculty and LSU College of Agriculture students, has been created by Legendre’s family and members of the American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists.
Legendre, who passed away in July, spent more than 30 years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Research Service Sugarcane Research Unit in Houma and another 17 with the LSU AgCenter, serving as a sugar cane specialist, professor and head of the AgCenter Audubon Sugar Institute.
Legendre was an international authority on sugar cane breeding and quality, and was recognized for his work on plant growth regulators as chemical ripeners for sugar cane.

Latter & Blum Property Management announced that property manager Joe Pappalardo Jr. has earned the Accredited Residential Manager certification and property manager Whitney McGinnis earned the Certified Property Manager designation.
Both certifications are from the Institute of Real Estate Management, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors. Certification is based on demonstrated competency the areas of professional education, examination and experience and adherence to a code of professional ethics.
