Louisiana motorists spent more on auto insurance — an average of $1,146 in 2013 — than drivers in two other states and the District of Columbia.
Figures released Monday by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners show New Jersey drivers spent the most, an average of $1,254 for coverage in 2013. DC drivers spent $1,187, while New Yorkers paid $1,182.
The national average was $841. Idaho drivers spent the least for coverage, $553.
In Louisiana, the average spending on auto insurance increased by 3 percent from 2012 to 2013. Nationally, motorists’ spending on auto insurance grew by 3.3 percent.
