Brenntag, a German chemical company, is paying $125 million for Altivia Corp., a Houston-based producer of water treatment chemicals with facilities in St. Gabriel.

The deal includes Altivia’s manufacturing and distribution plants in St. Gabriel; Marlow, Okla.; and Houston, San Antonio and Manor, Texas.

In a news release, Brenntag board member William Fidler said Altivia has a leading market position in one of the nation’s largest industrial distribution markets.

The acquisition strengthens Brenntag’s regional organization in the Southwest as well as its water additives business, one of the industries Brenntag focuses on worldwide.
