A 20-acre tract in the Conway mixed use development in Gonzales has been sold for $3.6 million to a company that plans to build a 300-unit apartment complex on the site.

Heritage Properties Incorporated plans to break ground on the apartment complex off La. Highway 44 within the next six to eight weeks, said Prescott Bailey, area president of Southern Lifestyle Development, which is developing Conway. The plan is to have the complex open by early 2018.

Heritage Properties, based in Madison, Mississippi, has apartment complexes across Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas and North Dakota. Locally, the company has the Audubon Park apartments in Zachary.

Conway is a 350-acre development under construction off La. Highway 44, just south of Interstate 10. Plans are to build about 950 single family homes in the development, along with office and retail space.

The first homes in Conway should start construction in mid-fall, Bailey said. Of the 337 lots in the first phase, 245 are under contract, he said, with lot prices starting at $42,500.

Work on some of the office and retail buildings should start in mid-summer, so people moving into Conway will have amenities when they first arrive. Two properties owned by Southern Lifestyle Development will be tenants: the Romacelli restaurant and the Pour wine bar.

Bailey said there will be “a fairly big” tenant announcement in the next four to six weeks.
