Louisiana Realtors broke ground Thursday on a new headquarters at 821 Main St. in downtown Baton Rouge.

The organization will spend $2 million to renovate and expand a home that was built in 1922. Louisiana Realtors, one of the largest trade organizations in the state with about 11,500 members, has been without a permanent office since May 2013 when a fire caused by lightning destroyed its Bennington Avenue headquarters.

The new office should be open in 10 to 12 months, said Norman Morris, CEO of the Louisiana Realtors.
