The American Business Women’s Association named attorney Carol A. Newman one of the Top Ten Business Women of the Year. Newman, who also owns Newman Title Insurance Agency, was vice president of the La Capitale Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association from 2009-2011 and was named its 2010 American Business Woman of the Year.
Antiqua Smart, an assistant professor in Southern University’s School of Nursing, has received a Teaching and Learning in Web-based Courses Professional Certificate from Indiana University School of Nursing and a Certificate in Nursing Education from Drexel University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions.
Eric Ravussin, professor and Douglas L. Gordon Endowed Chair of Diabetes and Metabolism at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, was awarded the 2011 George A. Bray Founders Award by The Obesity Society. The award recognizes contributions to The Obesity Society and the scientific or clinical basis for understanding or treating obesity. Ravsussin is an internationally recognized translational investigator in obesity and diabetes research. His research now focuses on the genetic and molecular basis of obesity.
Knight Oil Tools’ Tri Drill Services business unit has achieved Fearnley Procter NS-1 Level 2 approvals for: new application of Tritanium hardbanding product to tool joints; its Broussard facility; and a Fearnley Procter NS-2 Level 2 approval for its drill string inspection facility, also at Broussard. The Fearnley Procter NS accreditation program provides oilfield equipment and service companies with an industry-recognized approval program that supplements the requirements of American Petroleum Institute standards and demonstrates superior quality management and performance to offshore and onshore operators.
The American Trucking Association’s Safety Management Council presented Dupré Logistics with a Site Logistics 1st Place Industrial Safety Contest award and Tank Truck Certificate for Fleet Safety Improvement.
Laura Stober Larsen was awarded the 2011 Jessica Cosgrave Lifetime Achievement Award by the Finch College Alumnae Association based on her contributions to health care, her publications and the grants and national awards she has received. She has graduate degrees in nursing and art history and has combined her expertise in both fields to improve the quality of life for others, especially the underserved.
