Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, which operates about 25 Checkers and Rally’s hamburger restaurants in metro New Orleans and Lafayette, has been acquired by a private equity group.

Sentinel Capital Partners has agreed to purchase Checkers from Wellspring Capital Management LLC. Terms of the stock deal were not disclosed, but it is expected to close within 60 days. Wellspring acquired Checkers Drive-In in June 2006 for an estimated $188 million. The company has about 800 restaurants across the U.S.

The restaurants have the same menu of burgers, seasoned fries and chicken sandwiches. But they operate under the Rally’s name in metro New Orleans and are called Checkers in Acadiana.

Sentinel Capital owns the Huddle House chain, which has 400 full-service family restaurants in 21 states.
