AT&T said it will bring its ultra-fast GigaPower service to Baton Rouge in 2016.

The company announced it would introduce the service in 38 new markets, including Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes and Shreveport in the upcoming year.

GigaPower gives customers access to internet speeds of 1 gigabyte per second, meaning they will be able to download an HD movie in less than 36 seconds.

“The AT&T GigaPower network will help encourage economic development in the area by facilitating a new wave of innovation through enhanced opportunities for education, health, research and small business growth,” said Sonia Perez, president of AT&T Louisiana.

AT&T introduced the service in 2014 in Austin, Texas. By the end of 2016, 56 metro areas will have access to the service.
