The Louisiana Remote Sensing & Geographic Information Systems Institute is the newest tenant at the Louisiana Business & Technology Center at the LSU Innovation Park.
The institute is a nonprofit that fosters learning about Earth, its inhabitants and the use of remote sensing science and geographic information systems technology.
The institute uses data from NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Geological Survey and other federal agencies and Esri, a leading GIS firm, to meld maps and data "to visualize the world in smarter ways," according to the business center. The technique reveals patterns and relationships that may otherwise go unnoticed.
The institute will promote its expertise and resources to the East Baton Rouge Parish school system and during summer camps.
