4242 Government, an office building in midcity developed by former LSU basketball star Tyrus Thomas, is now open.

Thomas was part of a group of investors that purchased the former Bible & Book Center at 4242 Government Street in 2013. They’ve turned it into a building that will lease private offices to small businesses and individuals. Along with offering 18 offices, the 8,400-square-foot building has two conference rooms available for tenants.

So far, four tenants have signed long-term leases for space in the building including an attorney, a financial advisor and a nonprofit organization.

Thomas said his goal is for 4242 Government to serve as a hub for small business owners, community leaders and innovators who will help to continue Baton Rouge and Louisiana’s growth.

A ribbon cutting for the building will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
