BATON ROUGE

Wayne Newhauser, an LSU Department of Physics and Astronomy professor and director of LSU Medical and Health Physics, has been named a fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.

The designation is in recognition of his contributions to medical physics through service and the advancement of medical physics knowledge based upon independent original research or development and involvement in educational activities.

Newhauser’s research team focuses on cancer prevention and cancer survivorship through a collaboration with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.

NEW ORLEANS AREA

The Jesuit Association of Student Personnel Administrators presented M.L. “Cissy” Petty, the vice president of student affairs and associate provost at Loyola University of New Orleans, with its national Rev. Victor R. Yanitelli, S.J. Award.

The award recognizes Petty’s leadership, character and commitment to Jesuit higher education as a servant-leader, mentor and advocate for Jesuit student affairs.

Betsie Gambel, president of Gambel Communications, is one of 36 women nationwide named a PR Week Champion of PR for her work in the industry and philanthropic efforts.

Gambel founded her firm in 2009 and has more than 25 years in the public relations business. Her charity work includes serving on “countless boards” and working dozens of fundraisers and after a bout with cancer, supporting nonprofits working for a cure. Gambel is active with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and was honored at and served as a keynote speaker for YouNight, a six-month empowerment program for women learning to embrace life after a cancer diagnosis.
