The Louisiana Department of Economic Development was awarded $13 million in federal funding to use for its various jobs programs.

The State Small Business Credit Initiative, which is part of the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010, provides federal funding for capital access, collateral support and loan guarantee programs, including those targeted at rural and agricultural small businesses.

“With these funds, Louisiana Economic Development will continue to support the Louisiana Small Business Loan Guarantee Program and the Louisiana Seed Capital Programs,” Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La. said in a statement. Landrieu chairs the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Cineworks opens Baton Rouge office

Cineworks, a company handling post-production work for the film industry, has opened a satellite office at the Celtic Media Centre in Baton Rouge.

Cineworks is based in New Orleans and encompasses a full motion picture film lab.

The Baton Rouge location will support the increasing number of film projects cropping up in the capital region, according to a company statement released Tuesday. When fully staffed, the new location will employ four to six people full time, adding to the company’s roster of 15 experienced technicians.

By year’s end Cineworks, which first opened its doors in Louisiana in 2008, expects to open two additional satellite operations in Shreveport and New Orleans.
