Of the tracts awarded, three were in north Louisiana and 14 were in the southern parishes. Leases were sold in Avoyelles, Calcasieu, DeSoto, Iberville, Natchitoches, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, Red River, St. Charles and St. Landry parishes.

Health care forum picks tech provider

The Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum has selected Orion Health as the primary technology provider for the Louisiana Health Information Exchange, which will give providers access to health records and connect existing sources of patient data within the state.

Orion also serves as primary technology provider for Maine, Alaska and a number of regional exchanges.

Cindy Munn, the Quality Forum’s executive director, said the Louisiana project’s initial focus will be to develop secure point-to-point messaging to help providers access critical health information and to achieve “Meaningful Use” quickly.

The exchange is expected to improve timely access to patient information, improve patient safety, increase security of records, increase consumer engagement, more adequately measure and improve public health benchmarks and reduce health-care costs.

The Quality Forum is a private, not-for-profit organization that the state has appointed to plan and implement the health information exchange, to oversee the state’s regional extension center and to lead initiatives designed to improve health-care quality for Louisiana residents.
