The Pointe Sunshine Megasite near Donaldsonville has received designation as a “Louisiana Certified Site” from the Louisiana Economic Development department.
The designation serves as verification that Ascension Economic Development Corp. and property owner Crawford & Thibaut Land Co. have performed steps to make the site “shovel ready” for industrial development.
LED’s documentation criteria includes items such as utility and transportation infrastructure; environmental site assessments, wetlands determination, the mapping of servitudes, easements and rights-of-way, proof of property ownership, control and chain of title, zoning; soil conditions, flood plain mapping and other requirements.
Albemarle opens BR research facility
Specialty chemicals maker Albemarle Corp. said it has opened a new $1.5 million Environmental Research and Development facility in Baton Rouge.
The facility will allow the Albemarle Environmental Division to expand its capabilities into multi-pollutant control, while significantly growing its capabilities in environmental research, the company said
Agreement will move coal through terminal
Up to 4 million tons of coal a year will be moved through Kinder Morgan Energy Partners’ teminal north of Plaquemine under a 10-year agreement with Progress Energy Florida, according to the companies.
The deal is designed to supply Progress Energy’s power plant in Citrus County, Fla.
Foreign demand for coal has resulted in an increasing portion of U.S. terminals being allocated to exporters, according to Progress Energy. The long-term contract for terminal services at Kinder Morgan’s Myrtle Grove facility is an important part of Progress’s ability to fuel the power plant.
