Baton Rouge-based Amedisys Inc. reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $3.8 million, or 11 cents per share, attributed to a $21.4 million reduction in net income that resulted from December's federal tax overhaul.

The loss compared to net income of $8.9 million, or 26 cents per share, in fourth-quarter 2016. Net service revenue increased $37.9 million to $404.2 million from $366.3 million a year earlier.

The home health, personal care and hospice company posted $30.3 million in annual net income, or 88 cents per share, compared to $37.3 million, or $1.10, in 2016. Annual net service revenue increased $96.2 million to $1.5 billion from $1.4 billion in 2016.
