Rouses will open its newest Baton Rouge supermarket at 8 a.m. Wednesday, when it cuts the ribbon on a store in the Bluebonnet Village Shopping Center.
The store had been a Matherne’s Supermarket until early May when the Thibodaux-based chain took over the lease for the space at 7580 Bluebonnet. Rouses closed the store and started a $3 million renovation project that took six months to complete.
The store will feature a barbecue shop, an olive bar with more than 30 selections that is a first for a Rouses store, an in-house florist, a cigar program along with the standard bakery, seafood and butcher departments. About 120 people will work in the store.
This is the 11th Rouses in metro Baton Rouge. The company is on track to open a store at the corner of West Lee and Burbank drives in 2018.
This will be the 55th Rouses store. The company has 46 stores in Louisiana and eight locations in Mississippi and Alabama.
