LSU professor Fereydoun ‘Fred’ Aghazadeh, in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, received the Institute of Industrial Engineering’s Fellow Award. The award recognizes outstanding leaders of the profession who have made significant, nationally recognized contributions to industrial engineering.
NEW ORLEANS AREA
The Regional Planning Commission for Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes has recognized fleets and organizations in its region that incorporated alternative fuels, fuel-saving technologies and innovative transportation programs in 2013. Their combined efforts eliminated over 1.8 million gasoline gallons equivalent and over 10,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
Fleets that were recognized by fuel, technology or program are:
- 100,000 GGEs reduced: RTA, electric streetcars, biodiesel, and hybrid buses, fuel economy improvements through a tire inflation program; New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, idle reduction technology; and Metro Disposal, natural gas.
- 10,000-100,000 GGEs reduced: Airport Shuttle, propane; RPC and the city of New Orleans, bike lane program/reduction in vehicle miles traveled; Dr. Pipe, natural gas; Progressive Waste, natural gas; Park ‘n Fly, natural gas; CSX Transportation, idle reduction technology.
- 1,000-10,000 GGEs reduced: Limousine Livery, propane and electric; Wood Resources, biodiesel; Jefferson Parish Transit, biodiesel; Coca-Cola, hybrid vehicles; AT&T, natural gas, Solar Alternatives, electric.
- Up to 1,000 GGEs reduced: Entergy, natural gas and propane; Jefferson Parish, hybrid vehicles; and Hollywood Trucks, renewable diesel.
