First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Dec. 26 decreased to 2,398 from the previous week’s total of 2,675.

The state labor department figures released Monday show the initial claims for the comparable week a year earlier were 1,566.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 2,483 from the previous week’s total of 2,522.

Continued unemployment claims for the week ending Dec. 26 increased to 22,682 from 21,789 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 21,876 from the previous week’s average of 21,991.
