Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar has reached a deal to franchise its first out-of-state restaurant, a move that will lead to Lubbock, Texas, location opening in early 2016.
The Baton Rouge-based sports bar announced Thursday it had signed a franchise agreement with Jared and Heather Burnett for the Lubbock location. The Burnetts have ownership stakes in several restaurants in the city, including West Crust Pizza, Healthy Meals to Go and Twisted Root Burger Co.
Brandon Landry, co-founder of Walk-On’s, said he expects the restaurant will do well in Lubbock, which is the home of Texas Tech University.
“I’ve known Jared and Heather for a long time, and I knew that once we were ready to begin franchising, they would be at the top of my list,” Landry said. “They’ve had a lot of success in the restaurant industry, and our brand is the perfect fit for a great college town like Lubbock.”
The Walk-On’s location will be located less than five miles from Texas Tech in a shopping center anchored by Cabela’s and Costco. The restaurant will be 7,500 square feet.
Walk-On’s began franchising in late 2014. The first franchise restaurants, in Lake Charles and Shreveport, should be open by the end of the year. There are four company-owned restaurants in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette. A company-owned location in Houma is set to open later this year, while restaurants in the Americana traditional neighborhood development in Zachary and at the Juban Crossing shopping center in Denham Springs are scheduled to open in 2016.
The company said plans are in the works for more franchise locations in the South.
