Get ready, Baton Rouge and Lafayette. Your new Nordstrom Rack stores are on their way.
According to the retailer's website, the new Baton Rouge location at the Mall of Louisiana will open Oct. 1.
Lafayette's new location at Ambassador Town Center will open spring 2016.
In Baton Rouge, the 30,000-square-foot store will go into the power center across from the mall in a space formerly occupied by American Factory Direct Furniture Outlets. American Factory Direct moved into a space at 9555 Airline Highway that had been by occupied by Kirk’s, which moved to a location down Airline past the Siegen Lane/Sherwood Forest intersection.
It will be the first Nordstrom store in Louisiana. Nordstrom Rack sells apparel, accessories and shoes for men, women and children at a 30 percent to 70 percent discount from regular prices. The store carries designer labels and Nordstrom’s own brands. Nordstrom Rack stores are a fraction the size of a Nordstrom, which are generally between 130,000 to 150,000 square feet.
“They’re a very, very strong retailer that fits across a lot of demographic lines,” said Tony Stephens, general manager of the Mall of Louisiana, in October 2014. “They’ll do a lot of business in this market.”
The roots of the store go back to 1973, when a clearance center opened in the lower level of the Nordstrom store in downtown Seattle. The first stand-alone Nordstrom Rack store opened in 1983.
