The Church of Scientology recently relocated its Baton Rouge mission to a building near the intersection of Airline Highway and Interstate 12.
The mission is at 9716 Airline in a building that had been occupied most recently by the Taste of China restaurant. The church bought the property in January 2013 for $550,000 and spent about a year renovating the 13,807-square foot building.
Dexter Manuel, a minister with the Church of Scientology, said the new location is more visible than the church’s old building at 9432 Common St. “The traffic counts here are a lot higher,” he said. “We’ve seen an increase in people coming into the building, showing interest.”
The Scientologists have had a presence in Baton Rouge for more than 28 years.
