Shreveport-based LifeShare Blood Centers has purchased a nearly 2.5-acre site and building at Essen and Anselmo lanes that will become its new Baton Rouge storefront.

The company, which operates a facility on North Boulevard, bought the property at 5745 Essen for $4.1 million in a deal that closed earlier this month. The seller was Animate Corp. of Baton Rouge.

The sale includes a 56,538-square foot office building built in 1988, along with surrounding parking lots.

Ashlyn Plaisance, of Berkshire Hathaway, said LifeShare is getting ready to start building out the space.

The company was founded in 1942 amid emergencies created by World War II as Shreveport Memorial Blood Bank. It has had different names and in 1996 became LifeShare Blood Centers and operates throughout many areas of Louisiana, East Texas and southern Arkansas.

Travis Thornton, of Berkshire Hathaway United Properties, represented the buyer, while Ty Gose, of NAI/Latter & Blum represented the seller.
