Entrepreneurs can apply for ‘Pitch Night’

SENSE, a forum for entrepreneurs to present business ideas and experiences, is taking applications for a special business “Pitch Night” to be held during Baton Rouge Entrepreneurship Week in November.

Venture capitalists from around the country will sit in on the judges panel for the Nov. 17 pitch night.

Applications can be submitted by Friday at http://www.brentrepreneur.com.

Mall of Louisiana adds six stores

The Mall of Louisiana announced the addition of six new stores to its nearly 175 stores and specialty retailers.

Already open are:

  •  Pluckers Wing Bar, located on the outer ring road, serves a variety of wings and sauces and an appetizer menu.
  •  Aerosoles shoes, located in the Dillard’s wing, carries shoes, boots and accessories.
  •  Versona Accessories, where women can find accents to any outfit.

Opening soon are:

  •  Charley’s Subs, a Philly Steak Sandwich chain opening inside the food court that serves steak, chicken and deli subs, gourmet fries and freshly squeezed lemonade.
  •  Jared The Galleria of Jewelry, located on the mall’s ring road facing Bluebonnet Boulevard.
  •  La Crepe Nanou, a New Orleans-style neighborhood bistro, is coming to the Boulevard. Its menu features traditional French fare.

Company licenses Penthouse Club

General Media Communications Inc., the publisher of Penthouse Magazine, has licensed The Penthouse Club Baton Rouge, which opened at 4622 Bennington Ave.

The Penthouse Club Baton Rouge shares ownership and management with the licensee of The Penthouse Club New Orleans as well as The Penthouse Club Myrtle Beach.

LSU to partner in climate center

LSU has been selected to partner with the University of Oklahoma to develop and run one of eight newly announced U.S. Department of the Interior regional climate science centers nationwide.

The center, housed at the University of Oklahoma, will link weather and climate projections with on-the-ground decisions about how to best manage federal lands, natural resources, and fish and wildlife in the south-central United States.

LSU brings to the partnership expertise and experience in climate and environmental effects related to wetlands, coastal processes, fisheries, pollution, toxicology, and environmental policy and management to address the risks in Gulf of Mexico coastal habitats.

The consortium also includes Texas Tech University, Oklahoma State University, The Chickasaw Nation, The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory.

ESP opens offices in Dubai

ESP Resources Inc., an oil and gas services company based in Scott that offers analytical services and custom-blended oil and gas well chemicals, has opened an office in The Gold and Diamond Park Building in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The new office and subsidiary, ESP Marketing Group LLC, will serve as the company’s hub for petrochemical products and services through its existing distributor, BPT Americas LLC for the Middle East, also including Northern Africa and Russia.

BR company gets design-build contract

Arkel International LLC announced that it has been awarded a design-build services contract of $28.7 million from the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Acquisition Management.

The Baton Rouge company will provide design and construction services and contract coordination and supervision for the facilities at Camp Prosperity in Bagdad, Iraq.

Reconfiguration of the site is currently being done by the Department of State as a result of the U.S. troop withdrawal and need for the U.S. Embassy to provide additional housing and support services.

Arkel International was selected as the prime contractor based on a bid process.

Arkel has offices in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kenya, Sudan and Congo.
