Home nursing and hospice company Amedisys Inc. reported a fourth-quarter profit of $12.9 million, or 38 cents per share, compared with $9.1 million, or 28 cents per share, a year ago.
For the year, Amedisys reported a loss of $3 million, or 9 cents per share, compared with a profit of $12.8 million, or 39 cents per share, in 2014.
However, the results for all of 2015 included a $77.3 million asset impairment charge, mainly for writing off a failed in-house designed software system.
After adjusting for that charge, the company earned $48.9 million, or $1.48 per share, for the year, compared with $23.9 million, or 73 cents per share, in 2014.
Amedisys exceeded the expectations of Wall Street analysts. Stock analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research had forecast earnings of 34 cents for the quarter and $1.42 for the year.
