Initial claims for unemployment insurance jumped in Louisiana to 3,960 last week from the previous week’s 3,456, the Louisiana Workforce Commission reported Friday.

The four-week moving average, which smooths out volatility, decreased to 3,714 from the previous week’s average of 3,792 claims.

Continued insurance weeks claimed for the week ending July 7 increased to 35,461 from the previous week’s 35,399. The four-week moving average increased to 35,157 from 34,752.
