Reginelli’s Pizzeria is closing its North Gate location in about two weeks and will concentrate its business on its Jefferson Highway restaurant.
Josh Coy, general manager of the North Gate location, said plans the restaurant will shut down May 3, offering specials that day to “say goodbye to customers in the right way.”
Reginelli’s had a hard time finding customers for the 124 W. Chimes St. location because LSU students are “gone as often as they are for things like spring break and summer vacation,” Coy said. In order to bring in more students, the restaurant switched to a different menu than other Reginelli’s locations, selling pizza by the slice and offering a limited number of sandwiches, speciality pizzas and salads.
New Orleans-based Reginelli’s opened the North Gate restaurant in November 2007. The pizzeria moved into a building that had been occupied by The Bayou, a popular LSU bar in the 1980s and 1990s.
About 20 people work at the restaurant. Coy said they are being offered chances to take jobs at other Reginelli’s locations.
The Reginelli’s at 684 Jefferson Highway will take over catering and delivery service for the LSU area, Coy said. Reginelli’s was founded in 1996 and has nine other locations in New Orleans and Houston.
